US PRESIDENT Joseph Biden pardoned two giant white turkeys from Indiana today named Peanut Butter and Jelly, in the White House rose garden, continuing the Thanksgiving tradition that dates back decades.
“Instead of simmering, these two turkeys will continue to tickle and grow,” Biden said, using a term referring to the third dose of vaccine approved by the US Food and Drug Administration for wider use earlier in the day, Reuters reported.
– It is important to continue such traditions, to remind us that there is light and hope and progress from the darkness, and that is what, in my opinion, represents this year’s Thanksgiving – he pointed out.
Before he spoke, the turkeys roamed the lawn freely, as the smell of hot cider spread through the air.
The band played songs related to birds, including “Free Bird” and “Birdland” by White House staff and their children.
