VIETNAMIAN workers on the construction site of the future tire processing factory in Zrenjanin “Linglong” will be protected according to the laws of the Republic of Serbia, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić pointed out on Friday.
She also stated that she asked for a meeting to be organized, which would be attended by representatives of “Linglong” and inspections, in order to understand exactly what is happening, what the problems are, how they can be solved efficiently, without pomp.
– I would not transfer the responsibility to “Linglong” without additional information. I am not running away from the fact that there were mistakes, we just need to clear this up and not politicize – Brnabić said.
Numerous conflicting pieces of information appeared on social networks and in the media about the problem with the workers on the Zrenjanin construction site. The question was raised about the conditions in the dilapidated barracks where they are staying, whether their salaries are being paid, whether their passports have been confiscated … The Vietnamese workers themselves, with whom “Novosti” reporters spoke in recent days, did not want to confirm any problems. “Linglong” announced, stating that they did not hire workers, but the company TEPC, the contractor, from which they asked the workers to be transferred to more conditional accommodation and confirmed the information that the passports had been returned to the workers.
The request to find more humane accommodation on Friday was partially fulfilled. However, more than a dozen builders who were engaged in the construction of the “Linglong” factory, in the Southeast Industrial Zone on the outskirts of Zrenjanin, voluntarily remained in the barracks where they have lived until now. A total of 86 of them were accommodated in the castle hotel “Kastel”, in the nearby village of Ecka, while most of them were transferred to the empty premises of the production hall of the company “Penfarm”, a few hundred meters away from the construction site “Linglong”. Some Vietnamese workers, according to some unofficial sources, are housed in a former refugee camp in the Zeleno polje settlement in Zrenjanin.
– I do not have exact information on how many workers were evicted during the evening and night between Thursday and Friday – says a kind young man from Vietnam, who knows Serbian and is hired as a translator. – There were no new tensions. Those who remained in the original accommodation did not want their passports returned, so as not to lose them.
This was confirmed to the “Novosti” reporter by a local security worker, who deployed his people to new locations where Vietnamese workers are housed.
In front of the “Kaštel” hotel in Ečka, no one, except for two security workers, who kindly warned that they respect the order not to let anyone into the hotel and that they have no information whether there are Vietnamese in it. Locals say that it is said in the village that the workers are accommodated in the auxiliary premises of “Kaštela”, where the service used to live a long time ago.
At another location, the “Penfarm” hall, we found several dozen Vietnamese, one of whom said from the terrace, “We are waiting for lunch, then to work.” He also claimed that he was satisfied with the new accommodation.
The Protector of Citizens Zoran Pasalic also visited all the locations where the Vietnamese were displaced on Friday.
– Negotiations are also being held with those who wanted to stay in unconditional barracks, so that they can move out as well – Pasalic stated.
VUCIC: WE WILL NOT FORCE INVESTORS
A campaign was conducted against every Chinese company in Serbia, which is the case even now – said the President of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, citing Zelezara and “Zidjin” as previous examples. He added that the inspection went to the field, in Zrenjanin, and that if it determined that the conditions were bad, they would improve the conditions.
– What do you want, to destroy the investment of 900 million dollars, for Zrenjanin not to progress, to close the whole of Central Banat – Vučić asked and added that the state will try to help everyone, but will not disperse investors, because bringing them is extremely “bloody” “hard work.
