The EPIDEMIOLOGICAL situation in Serbia is somewhat more favorable compared to a few weeks ago when it was catastrophic, which means that the measures, the extension of the autumn holidays and the introduction of covid passes, have yielded results, epidemiologist Predrag Kon said today.

In a guest appearance on TV K1, Kon stated that the situation is still extraordinary because we have a high number of newly infected and deceased on a daily basis.
– We are still in an emergency situation, it is somewhat more favorable in relation to the catastrophic one as it was. On the other hand, we are on a continent where the circulation of the virus is high and the appearance of delta plus strain, which has a higher ability to transmit, is worrying – said Kon.
He pointed out that the measure of prolonging the autumn vacation gave results, because the sudden decline of infected children of preschool and school age occurred with the beginning of the vacation.
Kon stated that in Belgrade’s primary schools, the infection rate has decreased five times, and in secondary schools 10 times.
– This week, the school team was re-formed, next week we will see what the consequences are. On the other hand, the measure of covid passes of 20 hours remained, however, we, as the medical part of the Crisis Staff, still ask that they be valid for 24 hours, because that is the only thing that can give results at this moment – said Kon.
He points out that the flu season is approaching, which starts in December or January, adding that it was not there last year.
– We hope that this year will be the same, because the worst variant that can happen to us is to have covid and flu at the same time – said Kon and added that kovid and flu will be difficult to distinguish and that we do not have the capacity to separate hospitalized patients. .
One of the ways, he says, to prevent that is to postpone the school holidays, adding that the medical part of the Crisis Staff should declare about that, and that the holidays could start in the second half of December.
– I am talking about this publicly for the first time now, it was not discussed at the Crisis Staff, nor was the position taken, but we did start talking about it – said Kon.
He reiterated that the only way out of the current situation is vaccination and added that it is the most important and primary measure.
