A MONUMENT to the great Russian prince, military leader and saint Alexander Nevsky, which is a symbol of the struggle for the preservation of Orthodoxy, was solemnly unveiled yesterday in Belgrade, in the gate of the church dedicated to this saint.
His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Porphyry consecrated a memorial bust of this Russian saint in the gate of the Church of St. Alexander Nevsky in Belgrade, which the city of St. Petersburg gave to Belgrade on the occasion of the 800th anniversary of the birth of this great man of Russian history.
– King Peter consecrated the cornerstone of this temple, and it was completed by King Alexander, who especially respected and loved and prayed to God, that God would protect him with the prayers of Saint Alexander Nevsky. And here at this place in the completion of the temple, at this place also participated numerous Russian artists, who came to Serbia after the revolution. More than 30 bishops, led by Metropolitan Antoni Hrapovicki, hundreds of priests and many believers, built this temple to be a gathering place, praying to St. Alexander Nevsky, and praying that he represents us to God because King Alexander, and before his father and all Orthodox Serbs they saw in Alexander Nevsky what Saint Sava was – a prince, a military leader, a ruler who ends his life as a monk, thus showing that we Orthodox peoples do not separate what is social, what is state organization and order from what is spiritual order . The same people belong to one space, one state and the Church, and there is no such artificial division, as in an individual, between soul and body. One is a person, one is a man. Thus, society cannot be divided into a life that is outside the Church, which means outside the truth that is called Christ outside the gospel values, and a life that is organized according to the principle that everything is allowed to us. Saint Alexander Nevsky, with his personality, his words, told us a lot. Here we have written his saying which says – God is not in power but in truth. Therefore, God is not in the power of this world, which is not for contempt, but the power of this world if it is not rooted and grounded in the truth, in Christ, in what our Orthodox Church teaches us. That force is diminished and will sooner or later become a stumbling block for itself. But if the person and the individual and we as a community, despite stumbling and falling and deviating from the principles we decided on at the beginning and end, always have the truth of Christ, Saint Sava, Alexander Nevsky as the foundation of our existence, even if we really stumble, we seemed to be defeated, sooner or later, the truth must get its place and the truth and in itself is a victory – wrote the Patriarch of Porphyry on his Instagram account.
