The proposal, which the Bosniak Civic Party, the Montenegrin Party, the Vlach People’s Party, the Russian Party, the United Roma Party, the Ruthenian Democratic Party, the Alliance of Backa Bunjevci and the Democratic Party of Macedonians submitted in a joint statement, called for local elections. the number of signatures for the submission of the minority electoral list shall be reduced by 50 percent in relation to the number of signatures provided for in the Agreement on Improving the Conditions for Holding Elections.
-Many parties of national minorities have an interest in going to the local elections only in certain municipalities and cities, so the solution signed between the government and the opposition, if this draft Agreement is not changed in the way we proposed, will prevent those parties from going to the local elections. . We believe that it is not in the interest of the state, and it is certainly not in the interest of the parties of national minorities, it is stated in the proposal of these eight parties.
It is added that, if the proposal to amend the Agreement on improving the conditions for holding elections is not adopted, the parties of national minorities in many municipalities and cities in Serbia would be put in a far more difficult position than it is now.
-For example, in Belgrade, a minimum of 1,110 signatures are required to submit a minority electoral list according to the current Law on Local Elections, and according to the draft agreement, 3,000 are needed, in Subotica, a minimum of 690 signatures is required for a minority electoral list, and 1,000 signatures are now required. The situation is the same in many other local communities. If there is no intention, and we hope it is not, to prevent national minority parties from submitting electoral lists in municipalities and cities throughout the Republic of Serbia, then it is necessary to correct this mistake.
