The autumn break has just ended, and the controversy about the winter has already started, it should start on December 31, without extensions and shifts, as planned according to the school calendar.
However, members of the medical part of the Crisis Staff believe that it would be necessary to move it forward, ten days earlier, while on the other hand there are announcements that such changes will not occur, Blic writes.
The winter break will not be extended, but this topic should be on the agenda at the next session of the Crisis Staff, when the dates will be specified. What is known so far, the winter break for students begins on December 31, and the second semester begins on January 24. In Vojvodina, the dates will be somewhat different and the students will go on winter vacation on December 24. Elementary school students return to classes on January 17, and high school students on January 10, 2022.
Epidemiologist and member of the Crisis Staff, Dr. Predrag Kon, stated yesterday that what can be expected in the future is the return of a larger number of infected people to schools, as it was before the mini-holidays.
– The next blow will depend on it. What comes from Europe is related to delta plus strain, which has not been discovered in our country yet. This is not a break, it is far from a break, we have more than 3,000 infected. We are still in an emergency situation, it is not catastrophic, but we cannot be satisfied – said Kon.
As he explained, there has been no official conversation on that topic yet, whether there will be a postponement of the winter vacation, but opinions are widely exchanged through groups, invitations and conversations.
– In any case, we know that big holidays such as St. Nicholas, Catholic Christmas, and then the New Year are a great epidemiological risk. They are spiritually necessary, but they are an additional risk. Reducing the population of one million, we need to understand that a million people are in schools indoors, giving a break at that moment is something that we think is useful, especially in terms of the flu – said Kon.
Kon explained earlier that there are two options for postponing the holidays – one is for the holidays to start on December 15 in order to avoid all holidays, and the other a few days before the New Year.
Brnabic: We should consider what the medical part of the Crisis Staff advises
The Prime Minister of Serbia, Ana Brnabić, stated on the occasion of the allegations about the possible postponement of the winter holidays in schools, that we should first consider what the medical part of the Republic Crisis Staff advises and then make decisions. The Prime Minister clarified that she is of the opinion that while the situation is getting better, things should be kept as they are, in order to get room for maneuver in case of worsening of the epidemiological situation and the need for more radical measures. According to her announcements, in the coming days, consultations will be held with the medical part of the Crisis Staff about the epidemiological situation and possible new measures that could be introduced depending on the expectations of further development of the situation.
From November 22, in all primary and secondary schools on the territory of Serbia, students will attend classes according to the first direct model, which means that all students will be in the class, Assistant Minister for Preschool and Primary Education Milan Pasic told RTS. According to his announcements, if the winter break starts earlier, it is quite certain that the children will do best.
