The world has been fighting the coronavirus for almost two years. During that time, scientists learned a lot about the virus, learned about new symptoms, which, among other things, changed due to new mutations.
While at the beginning of the pandemic the characteristic symptoms were fever and cough, the list of symptoms later expanded drastically.
Kovid often led to a loss of sense of taste and smell, which is not characteristic in this last wave. Kovid’s fingers have also appeared, and scientists are now warning that the corona can lead to hearing problems, and that this can also be one of the symptoms.
More than ten percent of people who suffer from kovid develop some kind of symptoms that affect the eyes or ears, according to a new study published by the American National Center for Biotechnological Information. These symptoms can last for a long period of time, scientists warn.
– There is more and more data that the corona virus causes more neural consequences than we thought – says molecular biologist from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Lee Gerke.
In a meta-analysis published this year, she and her colleagues found that dizziness or vertigo occurs in 12 percent of covid patients, and ringing in the ears or tinnitus in 4.5 percent of patients and hearing loss in three percent.
One theory of how the virus affects the ears is, says Jafari, that the inflammation caused by the virus directly affects the auditory system. The virus can also attack the barrier between the bloodstream and the inner ear.
In most cases, these symptoms disappear on their own, but experts warn that they can last a long time, even after recovery from the crown.
