The COALITION agreement of the three parties that will, led by Olaf Scholz, will form the new government of Germany, expresses support for the European integration of the Western Balkans.
The 177-page agreement between the Social Democrats, Greens and Liberals, in the part related to this region, points out that the future ruling coalition supports the process of accession to the European Union of the Western Balkans region, as well as “necessary reforms to meet the Copenhagen criteria.”
– In this framework, we will strengthen civil society and support further steps towards rapprochement – it is stated in the agreement published by “Spiegel”.
The parties of the new German coalition believe that Albania and Northern Macedonia should open the first chapters on approaching the EU, that “visa liberalization” should be adopted for the false state of Kosovo, and continue accession negotiations with Montenegro and Serbia.
It is also stated that the new German coalition supports the dialogue on the normalization of relations between Belgrade and Pristina with the mediation of the EU, as well as efforts to achieve lasting peace in Bosnia and Herzegovina based on preserving territorial integrity and overcoming ethnic divisions.
In parallel with the accession negotiations, the European Union must improve its capacity to accept new members, according to the part of the agreement that talks about the Western Balkans.
