A CLEAR message that Serbia will not be left in the lurch about things that Russia can help, and which the head of the Kremlin Vladimir Putin conveyed to his Serbian colleague Aleksandar Vučić, at the meeting in Sochi, is additional “cement” in three important Serbian pillars: defense of Kosovo and Republika Srpska, energy security and the country’s armed power.

The echo of Putin’s message, but also of the concrete agreements on the lowest gas price in Europe of 270 dollars per thousand cubic meters, certainly resonated strongly in the West as well. If there was any doubt, now it is more than clear – a strong Serbia suits Russia and will help it resist all the pressures that follow.
This is especially important in the face of the obvious plan of the Western centers of power to open the question of the status of Kosovo and the future of Bosnia and Herzegovina next year. When it comes to Kosovo and Metohija, Putin’s position is more than clear: the fate of the southern Serbian province can be “broken” only in the United Nations and nowhere else, according to the “dictates” of international law, and not the interests of individual states.
Putin also gave the “wind” behind Belgrade when it comes to the front that is obviously being formed against Serbia in the region. Namely, after the meeting of the two presidents, the continuation of cooperation in the field of defense and armaments was announced, which is especially important at a time when our neighbors, above all Croatia, are trying to procure as modern weapons as possible, accusing Serbia of becoming a threat to its army. Balkans.
The message of the Russian head of state regarding the elections that will follow in Serbia next spring should not be ignored either. Putin wished Vučić success at the polls, with the message that he hopes that voters in Serbia will also pay tribute to the successful policy he is pursuing. There is no doubt that this also “hardened” those factors which, in their offensive of weakening Serbia, also count on internal forces which, synchronized with external pressures, should destabilize the government in the country.
Speaking about the significance of the meeting between Vučić and Putin, Prime Minister Ana Brnabić said on Friday that she could not even dream that we would get an extension of the price of gas from Russia of 270 dollars per thousand cubic meters:
– The fact that President Vučić managed to reach an agreement with President Putin represents a great security for our citizens and the economy, who now do not have to think about what is happening with energy in the world. It can also be a strong incentive for investors, because it is a great thing for them when they know that there will be gas in the next period and what its price will be.
She also revealed that she heard from President Vučić practically as soon as he left for the three-hour talks at the Russian president’s residence, that they covered all topics at the meeting and that what Russia did for Serbia was “a great gesture of friendship and partnership.”
– It is in line with our policy that Serbia is moving towards the European Union, but that we strengthen and develop ties with Russia, the United States, China, Turkey and other countries. I believe that many are not happy after the messages they heard from Sochi, but it all comes down to how competitive you are, and we are and now we have got the wings to be able to compete.
Political analyst Dragomir Andjelkovic says for “Novosti” that there is no doubt that Russia will not leave us when it comes to RS or Kosovo:
– It is clear that the pressure on Serbia will only be intensified, and Russia’s message is that it will stand behind us as long as it is necessary to defend our national interests. It is also a message to all those who planned to cross the border in those pressures, that it is better to “pull the trigger”, because that will introduce the Balkans into new turbulences. Those who are causing problems have now been made clear that Serbia will not be left alone and that they need to assess well whether it would be worthwhile for them to enter into a new confrontation with Russia.
Andjelkovic says that Russia is a country that is obviously ready to support Serbia to strengthen as much as possible, because as such it will persist in defending its own, but also Russian interests:
– The only great power that, along with China, has an interest in strengthening us, is Russia. Other great powers, America, Great Britain, France, all have an interest in weakening us, because they can only realize their interests to our detriment. It is important for Moscow that we stay out of NATO and defend our positions in Kosovo and RS.
