The OMICRON strain is likely to spread internationally, posing a “very high” global risk where an increase in covida-19 cases could have “severe consequences” in some areas, the World Health Organization (WHO) said today.
The United Nations Agency, in the technical council for 194 member states, appealed to them to speed up the vaccination of high-priority groups, Reuters reports.
– Omicron has pointed mutations, the number of which is without a president, some of which are worrying due to their potential impact on the path of the pandemic – the WHO announced.
– The total global risk related to omicron, a new variant of concern, is assessed as very high – adds the WHO.
It is further stated that further research is needed to better understand the potential of omicron to avoid the protection of immunity resulting from vaccines and previous infections, as well as to expect even more data on this strain in the coming weeks.
