Carbon dioxide is a by-product of almost every human activity. Its excessive release into the atmosphere leads to the warming of the planet – the greenhouse effect.

As we become more honest with the environment, we discover, more precisely, we recognize various sources of carbon dioxide that we did not pay attention to before.
A poorly designed and constructed building requires a lot of energy to keep the apartments warm. In the world, more and more knowledge and money is being invested in energy-efficient buildings, which need very little energy to operate all the systems in them – and they can produce that energy themselves, wherever there is enough sunlight.
The Republic of Serbia has made Action Plans for green cities and sustainable energy and climate. The main topic of these plans are district heating systems that emit a lot of carbon dioxide, but also a lot of heat into the environment.
This is the main topic of the panel “Green cities, decarbonization of district heating, use of renewable and waste heat” which is held on December 1 as part of 52nd International Congress and Exhibition on HVAC, in Belgrade Belexpocenter. He also announced his participation prof. Dr. Zoran Radojicic, Mayor of Belgrade – which shows the importance of the topic of one of the sessions of the traditional International Congress and exhibition on HVAC. Other participants also talk about the seriousness of this panel: Pol Fos, direktor Euroheat & Power, Belgija i Lars Gulev, Denmark – two countries that have managed to solve the problems that Serbia is now facing. Ljubomir Macic, Institute of Economics, Belgrade, Bojan Bogdanović, EBRD, Belgrade, Petar Vasiljevic, Clean Energy Solutions, Beograd, Radmilo Savic, Belgrade power plants, Amer Karabegović, Danfoss, Volfgang Kramer, Gilles i Vladimir Milovanović, Beo čista energija, Belgrade.
Another major topic of the International Congress and Exhibition on HVAC is the exclusion or reduction of the use of refrigerants that deplete the ozone layer. Since 2011, on the first Thursday in December, top experts from the country and the world have been talking about this aspect of environmental protection. Halvart Buy, coordinator of the ESA network UNEP OzonAction, Bojana Radeski, Head of the Ozone Layer Protection Group at the Ministry of Environmental Protection of the Republic of Serbia and Slobodan Pejkovic, President of the Committee for Refrigeration Technology, Heat Pumps and Energy Efficiency of the HVAC Company, bring their colleagues to Belgrade, exchange experiences and prepare for new challenges.
What connects the security, standardization, reindustrialization of Serbia, its urban (rural and urban) development, zero energy buildings, agriculture, heat pumps…? Prof. Marija S. Todorović, chairwoman of the Committee for Renewable Energy Sources, artistically connects seemingly different professions and topics, which together must help Serbia conserve its resources and spend them wisely. This year – decarbonization is the main topic of the session prepared by the professor Todorovic, which also includes REHVA’s workshop on decarbonization of large residential buildings.
General Patron of this year’s Congress is the domestic company Elcom Trade, Belgrade, the exclusive importer and distributor of Midea devices and the authorized dealer of air conditioners Daikin.
Meetings of colleagues, exchange of experiences, joint appearance on the market, presentation of new technologies and solutions… are the basic elements of the exhibition which is held every year in parallel with the Congress. The first week in December is reserved for over half a century for the International Congress and Exhibition on HVAC. Number of companies exhibitingu is constantly in the three digits, and the company TROX has been participating for over four decades! The director of that company thanked me several years ago prof. Branislav Todorović, the president of the Society for HVAC, which gathered all existing and future associates in one place, so he does not have to visit the former Yugoslavia. This year, TROX Austria GmbH Representative Office of Serbia holds the title of sponsor of the exhibition.
The gathering has retained its regional character and brings together colleagues and companies from all cities of the former Yugoslavia, but also large multinational companies for which our region is an interesting market.
Hundreds of students from the country and the world are participating in the Congress, visiting the exhibition, and domestic students are participating in the National Student Competition, the winner of which represents the Republic of Serbia, the HVAC Society and its faculty and the Society in REHVA’s student competition next year.
International Congress and Exhibition on HVAC 1–3. December 2021, organized by the Society for Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration at the Association of Mechanical and Electrical Engineers and Technicians of Serbia (SMEITS). All events at the Congress and the exhibition continue in the quarterly magazine “KGH”, which this year marked half a century of regular publication, in monthly electronic bulletins „
