She told RTS that this is shown by the research of “Sinofarm’s” vaccine, which included about 10,000 respondents, and which showed that after the booster dose, there is a significant increase in the amount of antibodies. That is why everyone who received a booster dose of “Sinofarm” vaccine will be protected, said Jovanović.
Professor Jovanović, a virologist from the Medical Faculty in Belgrade, emphasized that the omicron strain has not been confirmed in Serbia, as well as that the presence of delta plus a variant of the corona virus has not been confirmed.
– But, as we know, viruses know no borders, so we expect and it is certain that if the virus spreads quickly and reaches the surrounding countries, it will come to our country – said Jovanovic.
She added that in connection with the new variant, they are worried about the consequences of mutations, as well as whether the new variant of the virus will spread faster and whether it will cause a more severe or milder clinical picture.
She explained that the virus makes mutations in order to enter the cell more efficiently, in order to increase the affinity for our cells, since the very desire of the virus is to infect us and to survive in the organism.
– In the delta variant of the virus, there were only two changes, and in omicron there are ten changes of amino acids – Jovanović pointed out.
