AMONG the most important items when shopping, especially when it comes to electronic and mechanical devices and parts, is certainly the warranty on that product.
Even this duty of traders, manufacturers and importers, to compensate the damage within the valid deadline, does not always seem to be a certainty for the buyers that they will exercise that right. Nemanja Popović from Belgrade was recently convinced of that.
When, after two years of using a new battery, his car stopped because this part broke down, Popović was not worried. The battery of the exide excell 12V 74Ah brand, which was sold at the end of 2019 in “Kit komerc”, was still under warranty. That is why he carelessly went to this store in Zvezdara to advertise a part. He had no idea that he would reject it, with the explanation that he destroyed the battery by improper use.
– I was shocked and annoyed, because the battery that I paid 8,972 dinars was under warranty for another year and I certainly expected others to give it to me – says our interlocutor.
– The car I used it in was a 2008 Citroen C5. In the explanation of the refusal, I was told that the auto part was used incorrectly. I guess they expected me to keep it on the shelf, maybe it would still be correct then.
The decision on the complaint of “Kit komerca” stated the day after the complaint that it was a battery when the active material was crowned, ie increased wear from the positive plates. During operation or malfunction of the vehicle.
– Inspecting the condition of the battery, it was concluded that no manufacturing defects were found. This car part is not the subject of a complaint and is rejected as unfounded and returned to the buyer – it is stated in the explanation of the seller.
– This is a decision after the battery, which was imported from Italy, passed the expertise in the central battery service “Kit komerca”. The current load of the battery was tested, and when measuring the density of the electrolyte with a biometer, it was noticed that the electrolyte was cloudy, gray-reddish in color, which indicates that there was increased wear in operation.
In the end, the dissatisfied customer was advised to check the starter – starter, charging voltage – alternator, and power consumption at rest on the vehicle.
– Their story does not stand, because the car is completely correct – claims Popović.
– When I submitted the car for a complaint, I borrowed an old battery from a friend to use until I got my own, as I had hoped. The one I borrowed was old and out of warranty, and the car worked normally with it, just like with the new one I bought, after the complaint was rejected.
COMPLAINT on the starter battery is accepted in case of a short circuit in the cell, interruption of the intercellular connection, factory-observed defects such as poorly glued cover, poorly poured sex leads, porous box – says Dejan Đurić, head of the service network “Kit komerca”.
– That was not the case with this battery. The most common causes for this condition of the battery are malfunction of the electric starter, charging unit, electrical receiver, poor installation on the vehicle during its operation, or the vehicle is unsuitable. If the customer had contacted us after the rejection of the complaint, we would have explained everything to him and he could have checked the vehicle for free at our service or some other service with which we have cooperation.
