WORKS on the complete reconstruction of the Port of Novi Sad, in the development of which the owner of the company “DP World” (DP World) will invest 30 million euros, were marked today by laying a time capsule which symbolically marked the beginning of construction of a vertical quay, container terminal and silo for cereals.
The time capsule with messages, built into the concrete element that will be an integral part of the vertical quay, was laid by the Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Tomislav Momirovic, Mayor Milos Vucevic and General Manager of “DP World” Novi Sad Claudio Negreanu.
– In two years, we will have one of the largest container terminals in Europe. Nine silos with a capacity of 40,000 cubic meters will be built – Minister Momirović pointed out, emphasizing that these investments of one of the largest Lika operators in the world are of great importance for the entire Serbian economy.
The Minister mentioned that for the first time, the Port of Novi Sad will have the opportunity to offer the service of storage of agricultural products, and at the same time announced significant investments of the state in the construction and renewal of capacities for water transport of goods.
– We have prepared more than half a billion euros of investments in river infrastructure. We will invest in the ports of Bogojevo, Sremska Mitrovica, Prahovo and Belgrade – Momirovic added, adding that this investment is another proof that Serbia is a desirable place for investment by world companies.
Mayor Vučević said that this is a great investment in the infrastructure of Novi Sad and our country.
– This will significantly improve our economic capacities and enable easier transport of goods from Novi Sad to all destinations. I am glad that in these challenging times, the company “DP World” is not losing business activity – Vučević pointed out.
And the director of Negreanu mentioned that “DP World Novi Sad” is the only port operator that has recently been trained to transport goods in containers, so that the new terminal will also be a warehouse for containers. He explained that it will be possible for the containers to be packed and immediately placed on a truck or train, since after many years, the railway passing through the Port will be renewed.
After the purchase of the Port of Novi Sad in 2019, the company “DP World” from the UAE purchased a new crane, new machinery for loading goods, the ship “Albatross”, which contributed to greater security and speed of barges entering the port and built a passenger terminal for Novi Sad . – The Danube is the most important river for transport in Europe and that is why we are investing in new facilities in the Port of Novi Sad in order to make it the most important terminal on the Danube, which is of great importance for the Serbian market and the wider region – said Negreanu.
