THE PRESIDENT of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, pointed out that Serbia’s strategic goal remains EU membership, and that Serbia has clearly stated its position on the issue of the conflict in Ukraine.
– It is also true that we did not impose sanctions on Russia. We have always had the support of Russia and China on the issue of our territorial integrity. If we impose sanctions, we will lose support. As many as 77 percent of people in Serbia are completely against sanctions. You can impose your will on people, but that is not good, you have to talk to the people. We have acted in principle, and we will always support the territorial integrity of Ukraine, but we again wonder why all those who are now fighting for territorial integrity did not talk about it in 1999 – the president said.
Vučić adds that Serbia helped Ukraine with more than three million euros, as well as that our country sent medical aid.
– Tomorrow I will visit Ukrainian refugees. And we will not send weapons, because we will not be a party to the war – the president said.
Moderator Kevin Baron then asked: “Why?”, To which the president repeated: “we will not choose the parties in this war”.
– Put yourself in our position. Ask yourself, in 1999, who helped Serbia. Some people then said they prevented genocide, and some today, on the other hand, say they prevent genocide. You liked words like that then, and you don’t like them today. Either you have principles, or you don’t. But if you have them, you can’t change them in 20 years – he said.
