TWO violations of international law, the bombing of the former FRY and the unilaterally declared independence of the so-called Kosovo, they set precedents, the consequences of which can be seen today, assessed the deputies of the Left and the right-wing “Alternative for Germany” (AFD) at yesterday’s session of the Bundestag in the discussion on extending the mandate of German soldiers in the KFOR mission.
AfD MP Marcus Fronmeyer said that the KFOR mission has been going on for too long – 23 years and that the arguments for its extension can justify staying permanently.
– If one mission is a bottomless pit, then one needs to understand when the end must be. Germany provided assistance in the amount of 464 million euros, and promised a further 72 million euros – he added.
Frontmeyer pointed out that, as he stated, the former president of the so-called Kosovo’s Hashim Thaci has nurtured excellent ties to organized crime and is now a war crimes suspect.
He pointed out that the KFOR mission was established in order to prevent the massacre of Serbs and Albanians.
Frontmeyer pointed out that two events were a turning point – the first massacre of Serbs in 2004, when KFOR only watched when Albanians tried ethnic cleansing, and the second case was the unilateral declaration of independence.
He reminded that there is still the UN Security Council Resolution 1244, which ensures the territorial integrity of Serbia, but which was violated by the creation of a state on Serbian territory.
– Since then, KFOR no longer acts as a peacekeeping force, but a protective force of the corrupt government. From peacekeeping forces, they have become a force of power – Fronmeyer underlined.
He assessed that it was a catastrophic mistake, the bombing of Serbia without a UN mandate opened a Pandora’s box, and that since then all those who violate international law have invoked this NATO precedent.
“Let’s close that box and end the KFOR mission,” he called.
MP Gregor Gizi from the Left faction underlined that the secession of Kosovo is contrary to international law.
– Resolution 1244 clearly states that the territorial integrity of the FRY, as Serbia was called at the time, is ensured, and that Kosovo within Serbia must gain substantial autonomy. NATO justified the secession by saying that no agreement had been reached on substantial autonomy, but that resolution is still valid today – he pointed out.
Gizzi underlined that Serbia did not attack any country, which is why the NATO bombing was a clear violation of international law.
The justification was that the Serbian army was fighting against the armed KLA. And who armed them, he asked and pointed out:
– Every state would fight against the armed forces that want to separate the territories. This created a precedent, which Russia used for the annexation of Crimea, and now it is waging war and justice with a war against the fascists, who, by the way, are everywhere, both in our country and in Russia. That is not the reason for the war. Another justification made by Moscow is that the Ukrainian army is acting against Donbas forces, which are separatists like the KLA.
Gizi said that the parties that accepted the earlier arguments of NATO can now hardly reject the reasons given by Russia.
Representatives of the ruling parties, as well as the CDU / CSU, have spoken out in favor of extending the mandate, however, some of them have heard that the so-called Kosovo is a corrupt state.
