IF the condition for Serbia to progress faster towards the EU would be to go to war with someone, then thank you, it is not worth it, Interior Minister Aleksandar Vulin said tonight, reacting to the fact that Ukraine and Moldova received the status of candidates for EU membership.
– The European Union has decided to stop pretending that there are the same rules for everyone who wants to join this organization. Ukraine has become a candidate for membership despite failing to meet standards so carefully applied to Balkan countries. She overcame several decades of pressure, blackmail and bureaucracy, and she did not have to struggle with the fight against corruption, fulfilling criteria in the field of justice or economic reforms, and cooperation with courts that determine war crimes should not be mentioned – said Minister Vulin.
He pointed out that participation in the war was enough to start negotiations.
– I can’t even think what will be the condition for ending the admission procedure. I hope that Moldova did not have to promise to go to war and that they approved its candidate status on the word of honor, without the obligation to fight.
According to Minister Vulin, if the decisive criterion for admission to membership or the beginning of the accession process is that the country is a candidate in the war, then, he points out, Serbia could have started negotiations in 1999.
– However, it seems that such rules do not apply to those bombed by NATO, for quick accession to the European Union, one must clash with Russia – the Minister stated. – Until yesterday, the EU was not a military alliance, nor was the state of war a condition for the start of negotiations, but now we see that it is crucial. If the condition for Serbia to progress faster towards the European Union would be to go to war with someone, then thank you, it is not worth it.
The Minister wished Ukraine good luck, and Northern Macedonia and Albania that they do not have to go to war with anyone in order to start negotiations for accession to the European Union, the Ministry of the Interior announced.
