The MINISTER of the Interior, Aleksandar Vulin, commented today on the statements of the US Ambassador Christopher Hill and the head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Emanuel Žiofre, and pointed out that in Serbia the decision of the MUP cannot be changed by foreign ambassadors.
– US Ambassador Hill and the head of the EU Delegation in Serbia, Mr. Žiofre, expressed the hope that the legal procedure will not be followed in Serbia and that, despite the decision of the competent authorities, the Europride 2022 walk will be held – Vulin said after foreign diplomats said they were sure that the walk will be held despite the MUP’s decision.
– The respected ambassadors did not express the hope that the opponents of Europride will be allowed to walk regardless of the decisions of the competent authorities. Their assembly is not subject to human rights and freedom of expression. The Ministry of Internal Affairs of Serbia has no such prejudices, we do not divide the citizens of Serbia and we respect everyone’s right to express their opinion, but we also take care of everyone’s safety, so we do not make decisions based on ideological or any other prejudices – said Vulin.
He says that, in accordance with the law, based on the assessment of professional personnel, the Ministry of Internal Affairs made a decision to ban both walks and confirmed the decision in the second instance.
The decision of the Ministry of Interior can be changed only by the court, but the ambassadors cannot, added Vulin and said that the pressure on the judiciary is not in accordance with the proclaimed values of the European Union, to which we so persistently strive, and in the United States of America it would not be possible for any the ambassador expresses the hope that the competent state authorities will act in accordance with his beliefs or attitudes.
– In Serbia, the law is respected and Serbia’s interests are taken care of, everyone else will be listened to with respect, but only the law and only our citizens will be obeyed. The Ministry of Internal Affairs reiterates its position that there will be no marches that could lead to senseless and harmful and unnecessary conflicts for the interests of Serbia and our citizens, I believe that the respected ambassadors Hill and Žiofre also hope for that – concluded the minister.
