The Serbian delegation went to New York for the United Nations General Assembly with a strong trump card in the defense of Kosovo and Metohija: Belgrade has in its hands the notes of eight countries that are willing to withdraw the recognition of the fake state and that it is ready to activate if the pressure to give up the southern provinces increases. .
According to our information, it is mainly about countries from Africa and the Caribbean region. That list also includes some very influential countries in their regions, whose decision could cause a domino effect of new withdrawals of recognition of Kosovo.
Since Serbia started a diplomatic campaign of lobbying for the withdrawal of recognition of Kosovo, support for Pristina has dropped significantly in the United Nations. At one point, Kosovo was recognized by the majority of the total 193 members of this organization, but that number has been constantly falling over the past years, so that now, with these eight countries that are ready to change the decision, the scoreboard on the East River would look like this: 84 countries recognize Kosovo, 104 southern Serbian provinces are not considered a state, and five are in a fluid status – they formally recognize Pristina, but no longer vote in its favor.
It is increasingly obvious that the so-called Kosovo lost international support and that is why, with the help of Western patrons, they are trying to launch a false image of Serbia in the world, cause instability in the region and accuse Belgrade of that.
That is why the meetings that President Aleksandar Vučić will have with more than 30 leaders of countries and important international political and economic organizations, who have shown great interest in hearing the views of our country, are even more significant. Among them are also representatives of countries that could additionally move the United Nations to Serbia’s side when it comes to Kosovo.
Prime Minister Ana Brnabić announced that in the future there will be more countries that will withdraw the recognition of Kosovo. She pointed out that the withdrawal of recognition is one of the most significant indicators of the correct, consistent and well-planned policy that Serbia is leading:
– It is a policy based on respect for international law and, despite all the challenges and pressures to which many countries are exposed to recognize the so-called state of Kosovo, there are more and more people who cannot ignore the fact that law, justice and all arguments are absolutely on our side.
Srđan Graovac from the Center for Social Stability points out, for “Novosti”, the importance of the talks that Vučić will have in the coming days at East River:
– First, Kosovo cannot enter the United Nations without the consent of the Security Council, which is opposed by two powerful members with the right of veto, Russia and China. Second, it is now completely clear that the majority of the world does not recognize Kosovo’s independence, and thus our fight for new recognitions is even more important. In his address to the General Assembly, President Vučić will once again send a message to the world public that Serbia firmly stands on the point that Kosovo is part of our country and that we continue to fight for the protection of our sovereignty and international law and principles. That is why the withdrawal of recognition is important, because it shows that the issue of the status of Kosovo has not been resolved and that the majority of the world does not recognize the illegally declared independence.
Political analyst Dragomir Anđelković believes that the withdrawal of recognition is a good thing and that they put an end to attempts to fuel Ischinger’s plan – for Serbia to allow Kosovo to enter the UN, without formal recognition:
– And psychologically, it is very important that Belgrade claims to have recognition from new countries, but it should be disclosed as soon as possible which countries these are.
By the way, before the introduction of a one-year moratorium on lobbying for new recognitions, which Serbia committed to in the Washington Agreement in September 2022, as many as 18 countries withdrew their recognition of the fake state. These are: Sierra Leone, Suriname, Togo, Ghana, Nauru, Union of Comoros, Sao Tome and Principe, Guinea-Bissau, Burundi, Liberia, Lesotho, Grenada, Madagascar, Commonwealth of Dominica, Papua New Guinea, Solomon Islands, Palau and Central African Republic.
MAKRON’S AND SOLC’S PLAN – TEST
BEFORE the start of the general debate in the UN General Assembly, an alleged plan by France and Germany appeared in the Albanian media, according to which next year, a decade after the signing of the Brussels Agreement, a new phase in the dialogue between Belgrade and Pristina should begin, and then after another 10 years, when the EU is ready to expand and include the Western Balkans, to reach a final formal agreement on recognition as a precondition for the membership of Kosovo and Serbia in the EU.
Graovac believes that this is a kind of trial balloon, to see how both the Serbian and Albanian public will react. He adds that this proposal does not bring anything new to Serbia, because the key problem of Kosovo’s status is set aside for 10 years, while Serbia should already give the “green light” for Pristina’s admission to international institutions next year.
