THE PRESIDENT of Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić, who is in New York where he is participating in the work of the 77th General Assembly of the United Nations, is today a guest on the program “Wake up, America” on the American TV channel Newsmax.
The former special envoy of the US president for negotiations between Belgrade and Pristina, Richard Grenell, is with the president on the show.
Vučić reminded the audience that Serbia celebrated the 140th anniversary of relations with the USA, and that our countries were on the right side of history in both world wars.
– I think we have successfully de-escalated the crisis in Kosovo, but we will have to work harder to find a long-term solution. We are not going to look for the culprit, but a compromise is much better than weapons and bombs, which we are seeing today – said the president.
He pointed out that Serbia has always had excellent relations with both Russia and Ukraine, and that our country does not take sides with anyone, but that it will always condemn war.
– We are looking at how to diversify our energy supply. We are building interconnectors on the borders with Bulgaria and North Macedonia. You asked, Mr. Grenell, that we understand how economic ties are the most important in our region. Reconstruction of the infrastructure network. We see that the trade exchange between Serbia and the USA is greater today than ever, even 1.2 billion – said the president.
Vučić added that the company Rivian, an American company that produces electric vehicles, is opening a center for development and research.
– We had big problems with lithium in the past, and I made some political mistakes. But I think that a good business crisis is the reason why Rivian comes to Serbia. They were looking for an attractive country to invest in, and we have subsidies and smart people. We are the champions of Europe in terms of attracting foreign direct investments. We attracted as much as 3.3 billion euros to our country – he said.
